1)Explain the difference between drug use, misuse and abuse give examples
2)What are the primary,secondary and tertiary prevention for the drug problem give examples.
Drug Use:It is the use of drugs for psychotrophic other than the medical purposes.They excite the parts of the brain so that it makes them feel good. Some psychotrophic drugs used are morphine,heroin.It can be also considered as perrfomaance enhancing drugs
Drug Abuse: refers to excessive and addictive use of drugs which can cause severe physiological and psychological effects.It is also known as substance abuse.They can be harmful to the individuals as well as to others.
Example of drug abuse are heroin which can lead to seizure, psychosis hallucinations etc.marijuana, cocaine
Drug Misuse:It is the use of a substance for a purpose not consistent with legal or medical guidelines which can have negative impact on health andmakethe form of drug dependence.
Examples of drugs that are misused are;alcohol,tobacco,,illegal drugs,painkillers,sleeping tablets etc.
2. Priamry prevention for the drug problems are;
a.helping those indvidual who are at risk to avoid the delopment of addictive behaviour.
b. They can be educated regardig the realistic risk of use of these drugs.
c.If children are more prone to addiction, then their parents hsould be also involvedin the treatment. The should be encouraged to have a good bonding between the chidlren and to spen some quality time with them
d. If women are addicted, then they should be edcuated regarding the risk that they should face in pregnancy and future.
Secondary prevention.
it includes uncovering potentially harmful substances use prior to the onset of overt symptoms or problems.
a. Maintain alertness regarding the early signs of drug abuse and collect histroy as there are more chances of relapse.
b.recovering addicts sould be provided with someopiate analgesics as they experience certain physical discomfort during the relpase.
c.In case of substanceabuse, the useof benzodiazepens should be avoided as much as possible or if needed, then only a short course therpay should be provided to the patient.
d. In certain cases a second opinion of another doctor can be also taken.
Territary prevention.
It involves treating of the medical consequences. and facilitatng treament so tha disability can be minimised.
a. group therapy approach can be utilsed for the patients.
b. frequent monitring and counselling.
c. environmetal and family encouragement of abstinence.
d.keep a track of the patientsprogress and explan it to the patient so that it can create a positive vibeto the patient.
