Contigencey theory of leadership: It states effectiveness of a leader is congingent upon his or her leadership style matches to situation.A leader should find out kind of leadership style better for him or her according to the situation.This theory was develpoed by fred fiedler in 1958.He believed that one's effectiveness is depend on their control of the situation and style of leadership.It states two ways-
There is no best style of leadership
A leader is effective when his or her style of leadership fits with the situation.
In nursing management,nurses can fulfil effective managemnet only when they use principle of situational leadership theory to deal with patients and environment at its best.
Because people who take part in nursing management have to pay more attention towards-holostic approach,creativeness and elasticity of it.Different type of people need different type of environment for work.
It helps the nurses and management staff system to statisfy and balance internal needs and to adapt to environmental circumstances.
As different situation calls for difgerent approach to handlexmanagr and solve the issue related to client.
Other situational or contigency factors are 'changes in clients demands for good service,change in government policy or law,change in environment or climate change etc'
FLEXIBILITY:The fundamental idea of situational leadership is that is there is no such single thing as a fixed type of leadership.Flexible according to group requiremnets
It is based on skill level of leader.
PRODUCTIVITY:It influence the productivity of the staff by giving them opportunity to quickly respond accordingly to the situation,reduces supervision overtime,provides clear task instruction,communication oriented and provides opportunity to take decidion accordingly in bad situation.
Leadership style has a direct impact on performance of staff and indirectly on the performance of the organisational system.
Effective leadership quality hepls the staff to reach the desired goal.Situational type of leadership motivates employee and increase their productivity.It infleunces staff positivily and give them positive attitude towards their workplace
