What is the difference in the early view and modern view of manager-as-leader? Include an explanation of pros and cons (providing examples) as part of your response.
answer-
In earlier view, Managers are considered more like employees who work for the owner of the company. They have limited functions but in Modern view Managers must have both management skills with leadership qualities.
For example- decades ago, Manager in an organization were responsible for planning, organizing and controlling. Now we can see Managers who make strategies in thier own department, Set vision for their employees, Motivate them and inspire them which shows leadership qualities.
The pros of Early view of Manager as leaders that they face less stress of work. They do not have to make big decisions which rests on owners. they also have less responsibilities.
The cons of This view is that Manager has less scope of growth. Managers in an organization stay in the same position for many years.
The pros of Modern view of Manager as leaders are that Managers are in demand who have effective leadership skills and traits. Companies like Apple, Samsung, Amazon pay them in millions of dollars per annum to work for thier company. Managers get huge perks and benefits as leader. They have greater scope of development and rank their way up in less time due to their leadership traits and skills.
The cons of this view is that modern managers have to face too much responsibilities and pressure to achieve organizational vision and objectives.
for example- A Manager who is only focused on coming to his office, give order to his employees and then leave the office at 5 . The life of such manager is boring, static and no great chance of development but Modern managers who are energetic, take their work as it is thier own company and motivate each employee to show higher performance they become CEO in less time. Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella are great example who started as Manager but become CEO of Top two companies.
