1)How to determine distribution is skewed or symmetrical..?
On graph please check..:
if median is closer then first quartile then we called right skewed or positive skewed
if mediun ks closer then third quartile then we called left skewed or negative skewed.
2)imperial rule:
The 68 - 95 - 99 is known as the empirical rule ,gives an approximation of how much data is within a certain distance from a mean distribution of standard deviations.
The rule says that about 68% of the data is within + / - 1 standard deviation from the mean,
about 95% of the data is contained within + / - 2 standard deviations from the mean
and approximately 99. 7% of the data is contained within + / - 3 standard deviations from the mean
Importance: you can determine what the probability is of certain data occurring .for example suppose you have height data. Height is normally follow normal distribution becouse most of the heights is between 4.5 fit to 6 fit. Means 68% occers in first standard deviation..in 3 sigma cover 99% of the data... so we generally we describe the data using normal distribution assumptions.. so imperial rule is very important..
