analyze the different and overlapping general roles of physicians and nurses as they apply to professional credentialing and subsequent patient safety and satisfaction. Determine the major ways in which these overlapping roles may help play a part in health professional credentialing processes and conduct, and identify and analyze the ethical role these influences play in health care.
Both doctors and nurses are obviously important to the medical care. Both are complementary factors to each other to run medical facility smoothly.
In hospitals, nurses are the limbs while doctors are the eyes and brains. Doctors and nurses are the backbone of the health care system. Neither can work without the other’s presence. Without doctors, the patient’s diagnosis would not be delivered whereas without nurses, the medical treatment and other healthcare activities are senseless.
Doctors are limited to their specialized field whereas nurses are able to work in several wards or units depending on their job descriptions.
Doctors need to be specialized to treat illness or a problem. For nurses, their specialty is highly task-oriented and patient-oriented.
Doctors diagnose & treat patients, prescribe medications along with surgeries, some are internists or general practice doctors, and some are specialists like neurologists, cardiologists or anesthesiologists.
Nurses serve in a variety of patient care & have major roles in hospitals, clinics and other health care activities.
Overlapping role:
Doctors consult to nursing staff for therapy and individualization of patients.
At the same time both take an active participation in policy making.
