What were Michelangelo and Mimar Sinan working on separately? For whom? Why?

(A)Michelangelo worked separately on Pietà. Pietà is a work of Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti, housed in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.

For whom: He worked for the Republic of Florence.

Why? Michelangelo worked on Pietà because he did not want his version of the Pietà to represent death, but rather to show the religious vision of abandonment and a serene face of the Son. Thus, he wanted to represent the communion between man and God by the sanctification through Christ.

(B)Mimar Sinan worked separately on Süleymaniye Mosque.

For whom: He worked for sultan Suleiman the Magnificent of Ottoman Empire.

Why? He worked as per the directions of the sultan as he was the chief Ottoman architect and civil engineer for sultan as well as he was overseer of all construction work of the Ottoman Empire.
