To describe a process in which entropy appears to decrease, but is coupled with an increase in entropy elsewhere in the universe we take an example of freezing of a liquid.
When a liquid is freezing, the particles lose positional probability because there is less positional probability for each particle. In other worlds the process of Freezing is an example of exothermic process, in which the heat is release along with the entropy of the surroundings will increase.
The entropy change is given by the following equation as
follows:
dS = heat / temperature
Means if heat is release than its sign will negative as a result the change in entropy will also negative. On the other hand if heat is absorb than its sign will +ive as a result the change in entropy will also positive.
In the process of freezing heat is release from system and absorbs by surrounding thus entropy of system is decreases while the entropy of surround increases.
