1. Describe translational elongation in 3 basic steps.
2. Describe the termination of translation in 3 basic steps
Translation is a process by which polypeptide is produced from mRNA Sequence.it invloves 3 basic steps initiation, elongation, transcription in ribosomes
1.TRANSLATIONAL ELONGATION:- Elongation process is a cyclic process in that Amino acid is added as one at a time to the peptide chain based on mRNA codon sequence
It involves 3 basic steps
Decoding:- in this step, amino acyl -tRNA which has anticodon complementary to the mRNA codon will be added to the ribosomes A site
Transoeptidation:- tRNA peptidal group which is present in P site will be transferred to A site tRNA aminoacyl group to form peptide bond
Translocation:- tRNA present in P site will be transferred to E site where as tRNA present in A site will be transferred to P site with it's bound mRNA and polypeptide will be released as 1 AA at a time
2 termination:- protein synthesis will be terminated when it reaches stop codons.
Release factor will recognize stop codons
Release factor activates the ribosome to release polypeptide through GGQ motif which will act as peptide anticodon which binds to A site and terminate translation
Ribosome subunits will be dissociated by ribosome releasing factor which uses energy from GTP hydrolysis for subunit dissociation
