How do social determinants and global health disparities play into potential causes of this health issue?
How might you address the issue in your role as a
professional?
Human trafficking: The pandemic of modern slavery:
Human trafficking is a criminal activity in which people are recruited , harboured, transported, bought or kidnapped to serve an exploitative purpose such as sexual slavery , forced labour, or child soldiery. It is a form of modern slavery. There are many form of human trafficking is existing in the world and in most of the countries. Many children ,men and women are affected by by this evil and they are waiting to get out the trap, they got into. Domestic servitude, child sex trafficking, forced labour, debt bondage, use of children for forced military/ terrorist activities and forced prostitution and forced marriages are some of the different areas of human trafficking.
Determinants of Population health status and the role health promotion and disease management:
Factors that influence the health status of the population is called health determinants. There are different health determinants that can positively or negatively influence the health of the people , such as: Biological factors, environmental factors, social factors , and life style factors etc.
Biological factors include one's genetic and sex, age etc. Heriditary disease can affect an individual's health. Gender also can influence the health status of the individual. Men are more immune to diseases than women.
Environmental factors include the weather, temperature, climate, natural disasters etc. Microorganisms present in the environment are one of the main etiology of infectious diseases.
Social factors, includes the health services available in the society, economy of the individual, family and the society etc.
Another main Health determinant is life style factors, that include positive and negative health behaviours. Some of the negative health behaviours are alcoholism, use of ganja and other substances, poor dietary choices, junk food consumption, physical inactivity etc.
Role of health promotion and disease management in health determinants as well as in solving the issue or social problem of Human trafficking is inseparable. The main causes of Human trafficking are poverty , lack of awareness about human rights, lack of education, lack of economic and occupational opportunities etc. Victims of Human trafficking often comes to health care provider for the treatment of severe head ache , back pain, psychological problems, anxiety, post traumatic stress Disorder etc. Health care providers should be aware about the signs of violence, battering , abuse , forced labour etc. Early detection and counselling of victims with the help of police or other authorities can solve major side of Human trafficking.
(As a health professional ( I have) a burden for the victims of Human trafficking. I could help some of the victims to come out from their abuser's trap. In my Opinion every Health professional should have the knowledge about, Human trafficking, its types , incidence and a rough statistics in their country or locality. Then only they will get a burden on this issue. If our attitude towards one topic become positive , then only we can work on it actively. All healthcare workers should be trained enough to identify the signs and symptoms of an abuser and the victims. Then identifying them will become easy . Health professionals should have good communication techniques, so that they can collect the true history of the person sitting in front of them. Legal sides of Human trafficking and the methods of reporting to the police or Counsellors, sensitive issues related to that should be known by ever health care providers. There should not be any health disparities. Equality should be maintained in delivering the health services to the urban or rural people, to literate and illiterate, to men and women and children. Health professionals should identify the vulnerable sections in the general population and should give attention to them. All together we can fight against Human trafficking and help the society to stop this evil. )
