provide 3 different distributions of Linux. compare and contrast regarding strengths for each distribution. [ only 10 sentences or less }
1 - Ubuntu
It is the most well known linux distribution.
Ubuntu focuses on providing a solid dekstop experience with
customizations available.
It used to use the GNOME 2 desktop environment, but it now uses its
own Unity desktop environment.
It is based on Debian, but it has its own software
repositories.
It has a solid release cycle based on LTS (Long Term Support) and
intermediate releases.
It is user friendly with lots of helper commands.
Cons:
Some softwares are hard to install
It may cause problems with hardware compatibility(printers,
graphics hardware etc)
It has unique conventions that don’t translate to other
distributions
2 - CentOs / RedHat Enterprise Linux
Very stable and reliable and is used almost everywhere.
It’s based on the open-source Fedora project, but is designed to be
a stable platform with long-term support.
CentOS is easier than other distributions for customizing from the
command line, making it easier to automate the deployment of a new
instance.
High performance on the average hardware
Easy installation process with sensible and secure defaults.
Cons :
It has very long release cycle making softwares out-dated
sometimes.
CentOS is not a great desktop platform, mainly for servers.
Server updates consumes time .
3 - openSUSU
openSUSE is a community-created Linux distribution sponsored by
Novell.
Stable, solid distribution and plenty of support packages;
It is considered to have the best installation, setup, and
administration tool (YaST) among all Linux Distros.
It consistently performs well across various CPU
architectures.
Hardware support is a step above other comparable
distributions.
Upgrade process has progressed to be very easy and seamless.
Cons:
It has limited official supported package repositories.
Limited community support.
It has been stunted by Novell’s acquisition and dealings with
Microsoft that assume rights over portions of Linux
