Of all the cis-acting elements associated with a gene, which is the most important? Why?
Ans: Cis-acting elements associated with the genes are sequences of the DNA which are non transcribed regions. which regulate the expression of gene. some esamples are Promoters, Enhancers and Silencers. A promoter is a Cis acting regulatory element that reguglates the transcription of DNA sequence adjacent to it. It is a non transcribed region. promoter is the binding site for the RNA polymerase during the initiation or transcription. the rate of the expression of a gene is determined by the strenth of the promoter which in turn is dependent on the sequence of the promoter. Promoter is the most important Cis-acting element associated with gene because mutations in the promoter sequence, decrease or completely abolish the affinity for RNA polymerase binding and results no transcription occur(no gene expression).
