Difference between primary and secondary succession -
PRIMARY SUCCESSION:-
1)It occurs in an area which has been bare from starting time.
2)soil is not present at the time of begining of primary succession.
3)Reproductive structure of any previous species is absent.
4)No humus traces are found.
5)Pioneer communities are coming from outside.
6)Seral communities are many.
7)Primary succession takes longer time for completion i.e 1000 years or more
SECONDARY SUCCESSION
1)Secondary succession occurs in an area which has removed its covering recently.
2)Soil and humus is present before secondary succession.
3)Reproductive structuire of the previous occupants are present in the area.
4)Pioneer community develops partly from previous occupants and partly from migrants,
5)Seral communties are very few.
6)Secondary succession takes less time for completion i.e 50-200 years.
EXAMPLE OF PRIMARY SUCCESSION
Newly formed bare rock,desert,ponds etc.
Another example Evading of land entirely made of harden lava after volcanic erruption
EXAMPLE OF SECONDARY SUCCESSION
Fire - Fire is one of the most common causes of secondary succession.
Renewal after disease,Secondary succession occurs in oak and hickory forest after fire
