Ans. Primary Succession:- It is ecological or biotic succession that takes place on a biologically sterile soilless primary substratum or primary barren area. For example succession on barren area formed by lava sediment, primary barren area etc.
Secondary Succession:- It is ecological or biotic succession that takes place in a recently denuded area which still contains a lot of organic debris, remains and propagates of previously living organism.
Example is succession on area due to forest fire, landslides, earthquakes etc.
The difference in the primary and secondary succession are as follows:-
