Yes, I do believe that the government should make stricter laws about the data companies use from customers. It always feels like such a burden every time you go to a new website or need to purchase something and every time the website asks permission to track your data. I would say half the time this deters me and I don't use that specific website. The other half, I just need to purchase whatever is necessary from the site and I accept their terms. It almost feels useless to try and put up a fight at this point. I believe there should be laws in place that restricts websites from tracking our data and letting us keep our small shred of privacy that we have left.
As most of the website wants you to accept their cookies, through which your data can be tracked it can be annoying at times especially when one accepts it without going through the cookie policy. But let me tell you most of the companies track your data to enhance your experience even though it might feel doing the opposite. Lets take an example of online shopping site, where the data is collected to remember what is in your shopping cart, your preferences etc so that similar kind of products can be recommended next time. Even though one might argue it is against online privacy policy, hence for companies instead of making users accept their privacy policies they must have option to opt in or opt out so that ethical dimensions will not be eliminated while one can ethically collect the data. Well, I believe the viable option for such issues would be companies to follow the good privacy practices while customers be more aware about transparency and consent framework.
