According to Henry David Thoreau " the government is best which governs the least". The image of state has been changed from a police state to welfare state years ago. So the present day governments are in line with the the idea of Thoreau. One of the main expectations about the government is that it must insure national security without any compromise. One of the most important challenges that every government faces is the threat of national security, but it is the duty of the government to protect the country from external aggressions and radical groups. Another important expectation on the government is its interference in the market as and when needed. The policies on the economy should dealt with experts and they must be executed in the most sophisticated manner. The government must ensure the welfare if the people by providing quality health care services and universal insurance, better quality primary and higher education, infrastructure, employment opportunities, transparent governance, dignified foreign policies, support for the growth of industrial sector especially small and medium ones. But it should always protect the freedom, equality and dignity of each and every citizen of the nation.
