3. ARE WOMEN SLAVE TO MEN KNOWING THAT THROUGH MARRIAGE WOMEN TAKE ON THE NAME OF THEIR HUSBANDS AND CHILDREN TAKE ON THE NAMES OF THEIR FATHERS? WHAT DO WOMEN GET OUT OF THE RELATIONSHIP IN TERMS OF OWNERSHIP?

Expert Solution

One of the most important things about societies across the world is that they were dominated by men for thousands of years. Although in reality men seemed to have the ownership of the family, it was women who held the key to the houses which means that most of the civilized societies women held an upper hand over men at homes although men owned more power in the society. However, the rejection on a social level in terms of education, employment, political power etc. has left them inferior to men and made them take up the names of their husbands after marriage. However, things are changing slowly and many women tend to keep their surname without changing it after marriage. Men on the other hand are becoming more liberal in terms of accepting women as equals and contribute to the domestic works. Thus, it’s not a slave-servant relationship but a more reciprocal relationship where two individuals come together to contribute to a common cause. Nevertheless, in terms of changing the name, someone has to do that in order to form a new family and the government could look into ways how they could recognize new family names that are entirely different from those that of the man and woman.
