Classify the following as cross-section or time-series data.

Food bill of a family for each month of 2015

Number of accidents each year in Dallas from 2000 to 2015

Number of supermarkets in each of 40 cities as of December 31, 2015

Gross sales of 200 ice cream parlors in July 2015

Solutions

Expert Solution

let us start by stating the definitions of Time series data and Cross sectional data.

TIME SERIES DATA: The data which is collected chronologically over time is known as time series data.

CROSS SECTIONAL DATA: In time series data we may have cross sectional data when each member of a group is classified on some characters.

let us now come to the question,

1. The food bill is recorded for different points of time ,i.e in each month of 2015,therefore it is a Time series data.

2.Number of accidents in each year in Dallas also recorded chronologically over time ,i.e from 2000 to 2015,therefore this data is also a Time series data.

3.Here number of supermarkets in 40 different cities in a particuler time is recorded ,that is why it is a Cross sectional data.

4. Here also gross sales of 200 ice cream parlors in a particuler time ,i.e in july 2015 is recorded,so this also a Cross sectional data.

If you like my answer please give a thumbs up.
