computer is a programmable digital electronic device which can accept data as input from the user processess the data and provides the desired output i.e information to the user.

computer performs five basic functions  which are as listed below

Input:Information or data that is entered into a computer is calle input. The input section sends data and instructions to the central processing unit of computer

Processing: Sequence of actions taken on data to convert it into information which is meaning to user.It can be comparisions, calculations or decisions taken by the computer.

output: It makes processed data available to the user,it is mainly used to display the desired result to the user as per input instructions

storage: It stores data and programs permanently. It is used to store information during the time of program execution and possible to get any type of information from it.

controlling: controlling of all the above functions of computer is controlled by controlling section.

Input devices are those devices which can accept data as input from the user, while ouput devices are those devices which which sends the proceesesd data to the user.

There  are some input and output devices of the user as listed below.

              input devices                                 output devices

                keyboard                                        Monitor

                Mouse                                             Speaker

                Trackball                                          Printer

                Joystick                                            Plotter

                Light pen                                         Projector

                Touch screen                                   etc

                Barcode Reader

                Optical Mark reader

                Optical character recognition

                Magnetic ink character reader

                 Biometric sensor

                  Scanner

               Microphone

                 webcam

                etc

Touch sceen acts as both input and output device

computer is also known as data processor.

computer is not an intelligent device.
