ANALYSIS An Australian manufacturing company is keen to develop new products and develop new product line of shoes so that the company can expand into Asian markets more than before. The data have been collected for 99 products from the market. The data are in an excel file named “SHOES”. The file includes: PRICE: Price of the shoes in dollars. GENDER: 1 for Female product and 2 for Male product. COUNTRY: the country in which the shoes is produced: 1 made in Thailand, 2 made in Singapore and 3 made in China. COST: Production cost of the shoes in dollars.

questions:

1. Calculate the Mean, Median, Mode, Standard Deviation and Coefficient of Variation, for

prices for men and women shoes, separately. Compare the figures and explain that what

conclusions you can draw from these analyses? Draw a box and Whisker plot for men and

female shoes prices and comment on the shape of the graph.

2. Calculate the Mean, Median, Mode, Standard Deviation and Coefficient of Variation for

prices for the three countries – Thailand, Singapore and China, separately. Compare the figures

and explain what conclusions you can draw from these analyses? Draws a Box and Whisker

plot for each country and comment on the shape of the graph.

Here we are given ANALYSIS An Australian manufacturing company is keen to develop new products and develop new product line of shoes so that the company can expand into Asian markets more than before. COST: Production cost of the shoes in dollars.We hAVE TO:

1.We run the following steps in MINITAB to calculate the given statistics:

1) Enter the data in the spreadsheet

2) Select stat then Basic statistics and then select display descriptive statistics

3) Select the Male and Female in variable

3) Select Mean , median, mode, standard deviation and coefficient of variation from the given options

4)Click OK
Hence we get:

For Female:

Mean = 278, Median=273, Mode= 273,353,361, Standard Deviation = 75.5 and Coefficient of Variation= 27.14

For Male:

Mean = 284.3, Median=291, Mode= 153 Standard Deviation = 70.3 and Coefficient of Variation= 24.71

Here we see that the CV for female is more than that of male so the sample values in case of female is more dispersed around the mean.

To Draw the box and whiskers plot we run the following steps in MINITAB:

1) Enter the data in spreadsheet

2) Select graph then boxplot and select simple

3) Select Male and Female in the variables

4)Click OK

hence we get the following output:

According to the boxplots we see that for female there is a longer left tail so the shape is negetively skewed and for the male it is more or less symmetric.

2.We run the following steps in MINITAB to calculate the given statistics:

1) Enter the data in the spreadsheet

2) Select stat then Basic statistics and then select display descriptive statistics

3) Select the Thailand, Singapore and China in variable

3) Select Mean , median, mode, standard deviation and coefficient of variation from the given options

4)Click OK
Hence we get:

For Thaliand:

Mean = 299.86, Median=297.5, Mode= 273,353 Standard Deviation = 56.62 and Coefficient of Variation= 18.88

For Singapore:

Mean = 263, Median=247, Mode= 244 Standard Deviation = 76.1 and Coefficient of Variation= 28.94

For China:

Mean = 279.6, Median=277.5, Mode= 153,367 Standard Deviation = 78.6 and Coefficient of Variation= 28.12

Here we see that the CV for Singapore is more than that of Thailand and China so the sample values in case of Singapore is more dispersed around the mean.

To Draw the box and whiskers plot we run the following steps in MINITAB:

1) Enter the data in spreadsheet

2) Select graph then boxplot and select simple

3) Select Thailand, Singapore and China in the variables

4)Click OK

hence we get the following output:

According to the boxplots we see that for Thailand and Singapore there is a longer left tail so the shape is negetively skewed and for China it is more or less symmetric.
