Leadership defined: In your own words, define what successful leadership is and how leadership and management differ in an office setting. Consider what successful leadership “looks like” to you.
✓ leadership is an ability to influence and inspire others and make them work without using any force or orders. Leadership abilities can be nurtured and improved with learning, experience and environment. It can be the innate quality or traits of some individuals.
Successful leadership is built with the abilities to influence the people, with characteristics or traits that are most beneficial for the people, organisation and environment. A successful leader is one who can inspire people by transforming their behaviour and developing their capabilities to accomplish common goals.
Management and leadership are not the same. But, managers can play the roles of leaders. Managers take the work from employees with directed rules and make them perform as per set standards. Leaders inspire the people and guide them to accomplish something by participating in the tasks. Management focuses on formal structure, etiquette, levels of authority and maintain a formal relationship between seniors and subordinates. Leadership involves working with the members, as a a team, with Mutual respect, trust and and creating a family like environment.
For me, a successful leadership is the ability and characteristics of an individual, who can change his style according to the situations demand, considering the members abilities, resources and time constraints. and keeps a balance between the human orientation and work orientation. A successful leader never compromise on the ethics, integrity, and work quality. He respect, tranforms and inspire people to do well in their professional and personal life, and try to reach organisational goals with a collaborative approach.
