A cell consisting of a SCE and a Pb2+ electrode developed a potential of -0.4706V when immersed in 50.00mL of a sample. A 5.00mL addition of standard 0.02000M Pb2+ solution caused the potential to change to -0.4490V. What is the molar concentration of lead in the original sample?
A redox couple having lower potential acts as anode while the redox couple having higher potential acts as cathode in galvanic cell.
The standard reduction potential of SCE is +0.27 V and that of Pb electrode is -0.13 V. The negative value of EMF here indicates that Pb electrode here acts as cathode. Since calomel electrode is used under standard conditions, it need not be considered.
