The Corona Virus pandemic followed by worldwide lockdown and social distancing has caused major impacts on the businesses. It is a challenge to keep the businesses running as the revenues fall and uncertainty rises.
Some of the main employers legal obligations during this pandemic are :
1. Ensuring a healthy and safe environment for the workers based on the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
2. To cmply with stay at home orders and restricting movement of individuals and businesses.
3. Provide the required wage for the labour provided based on the Fair Labour Standard's Act.
4. Obligated with the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FFCRA”) (for employers with fewer than 500 employees)
The different ways in the companies are trying to help benefit the workers, change in working pattern :
1. Remote working : Workers are being encouraged to work from home during this time. The companies are using online training process to help remote working. The guidance for the employees ranges from setting up their physical and virtual workspace to managing your time and wellbeing.
2. Focus on Future of Work : It is very important for every employee to maintain a proper work life balance. The stress in managing work along with corona virus has made the worker well being an important aspect to the growth of a business.
3. Re defining the business : The Covid 19 pandemic is considered to be an important aspect of the fourth industrial revolution where new technologies like artificial intelligence and mobile supercomputing are an important part. This is an opportunity to re-think assumptions on the products, services and business model as well as on cross training and creating new products to be better prepared for the next pandemic.
4. Shift in hiring : The companies have moved from hiring on the basis of degree pedigree to hiring based on skills.
