Introduction :
AED full form is Automated external defibrillator. It is portable medical device used to treat sudden cardiac arrest. It works by administrating electrical shocks to patients. It automatically analyses rhythm of the heart who does not have the pulse and determines that shock is needed or not. And guides further information of procedure. This device can be used by anyone, layperson or professional.
As asked in question below are the first 3 steps:
1. First thing is call for emergency help. Because it can reach earliest while you are saving the patient by using AED.
2. Step 2 is to check breathing and pulse of the victim and if not found then will start CPR( Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) without wasting time and tell someone to bring and open AED device. CPR increases the survival rate after cardiac arrest and we do it by chest compressions with one hand in the center of the chest and other on top, interlacing fingers, hard and fast. CPR should be 2 breaths with 30 compressions of 4-5 cm.It allows to circulate the blood and deliver oxygen to the brain. If we don't do it, stopped heart will not be able to provide oxygen which can damage the brain in few minutes.
3. Third step is use of AED. Apply the pads on bare skin one on the upper chest and the other on the opposite abdominal. Follow the device advise. If device advised for shock then, no one should touch the victim and then can press shock button. The shock attempts to restore the heart rhythm to normal. After will follow the device if it advised to further CPR.
