Due to the rapid increase in the world population one of the main issues that face developing countries is that of food production.
do you think these Canadian technologies (ie Genetically modified Canola, the Canada-based Micronutrient Initiative, Flour Fortification Initiative)will help intended to nourish expanding populations?
please be specific give reasons of why each technology will help the issues that developing countries are facing which is food production.
In developing countries, the population growth outgrows the food production and therefore the need for proper food amongst the children are not met, which lead to diseased human resource.
The technology of flour fortification involves adding back the nutrients to flour that are lost during milling like iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid. The use of such fortified flours in the developing countries can benefit the pregnant mothers and also help in reducing risks of anemia in them, thus ensuring the birth of children with better health. Also the children and other individuals if fed with this fortified flour there the risk of anemia would decrease amongst the people of these countries.
The genetically modified canola(resistant to the glyphosate, an ingredient of herbicide used to kill weeds) can lead to increase in the production of this without compromising with its health being affected by the outgrowing weeds as the modified canola grows when the herbicide is sprayed to kill the weeds. Canola oil has omega fatty acids and is rich in Vitamin E and K. These vitamins provide nutrition to the people and the unsaturated fatty acids in the oil help the people prevent diseases like that of the heart.
The Canada based micronutrient initiative, is about providing Vitamin A and zinc supplements to children under five years of age per year, support the salt producers to incorporate iodine in salts and provide pregnant women with folic acid. These initiatives in a developing nation can actually lead to increased health benefits in the mothers and the newborn and young ones in the developing years so that they can grow up to be healthy individuals.
These processes can provide with better food quality in developing nations where providing healthy food to children mostly is a major area of concern. these efforts can increase the good health in the growing years by providing with the necessary vitamins that are important to maintain a good birthweight, hight for age and weight for age ratio.
