What do you think are the biggest issues facing most people? Have the boundaries shifted too far? Are the benefits of personalized technology worth the loss of privacy? What rights should individuals have over their data? Give examples, be specific.
The biggest issue that most people are facing is the lack of information privacy. Now a days as the use of internet, network and social medias are increasing, keeping individual's information privacy is becoming impossible. Not only privacy, safety is also endangered. Though there are number of factors leading to misuse of individual's privacy but most common are the information mishandling, spying and spoofing. Not only online, keeping information private offline is also a big issue.
Though there are a number of ways now a days which are a threat to your information privacy but still you can take safety measures and adopt counter measures to keep your information safe. Hence, we can say that boundaries are not shifted that much far.
Though personalized technology has its own many advantages. It can also be a method to keep information privacy but it cannot be the only method. So benefits of personalized technology alone are not worth the loss of privacy as the harm that the loss of privacy can give to a person cannot be cope up by the advantages of personalized technology.
Rights that an individual has over his/her data is first of all the protection of personal data concerning him/her. The use of such data should be fairly done with the consent of the person. According to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), following are the rights of an individual over his data :
1. Right to access
2. Right to be informed
3. Right to data portability
4. Right to erasure
5. Right to rectification
6. Right to object
7. Right to restrict processing
8. Right in relation to automated profiling and decision making
For example : In banks, you give all your information to the bank and banks has your most crucial information. There you have to full rights to access your data, in case if it needs rectification then also it can be rectified. Where and how your data is being used is also provided by the bank. If you don't want an account in the bank, you can have your data erased. If you suspect anything, you have the right to object and so on. In this way, bank provide full data privacy to their customers.
