i have a project where i would like to make organic chicken to look green. I'm looking for a technology that can do that. Also I'm searching for high level milestones for the project. Any ideas to help me out for the project?
Normally, organic chicken is grown with organic feed and are provided access to the outdoors. Organic chicken is fed with a balanced diet and is provided with a clean house. They are not given with growth hormones although growth hormones should not be used by United States Department of Agriculture. Pesticides and chemical fertilizers are not used while growing chicken organically. There are several other benefits of organic chicken.
But, to make this organic chicken look green is not possible as per what is available in the current research. Chicken can always be fed with green vegetables and leaves but, not made to look green.
Yes, the chicken meat sometimes might appear green due to a disease that affects the chicken called deep pectoral myopathy (DPM). This is the degenerative muscle disease of chickens. This DPM is otherwise called as ‘green muscle disease’. This disease occurs due to the reduced blood supply to the tender muscle of the wing. This muscle is responsible for the down-stroke of the wings. During the flight of the bird, although chicken does not fly much, these muscles help in the wing movement.
The inelastic tough covering of the muscle tender or sternum stops the muscle to gain weight due to the blood supply. The muscle mass will not swell with the entry of blood or change in physiological processes as it is trapped between the sternum and tough membrane, the blood supply will be stopped flowing into the muscle. Absence of blood supply creates oxygen deficiency and necrosis or localized cell death. As time passes, the muscle becomes green in color due to the breakdown of hemoglobin and myoglobin in the damaged muscle tissue.
If the bird activity is increased, it will result in wing flapping leading to green muscle disease. There are several other factors that might be involved in the increase of wing flapping. They are light dimmer operations, the speed at which the grower picks up mortalities, bird activity before the catch, light intensity in the house, feed outage periods, feed withdrawal program me, excessive noise disturbing the birds etc.
There is no such technology to make the chicken look green. Of course, green eggs are laid. There is certain chicken called Olive Egger, which lay olive green eggs. This chicken is the product of the cross between a hen and a rooster.
A normal egg, when cooked for too long at too high temperatures, can turn green. The reaction between the sulfur in the white and iron in the yolk can result in the color.
