Difference between top-down models and bottom-up models are as follows:
1. Under the top-down model it is tried to divide the information or problem into smaller tasks or jobs, whereas in the bottom-up model, small tasks or problems are solved and integrated as a whole.
2. There is a need for an adequate amount of communication in the bottom-up approach, but it is not so in a top-down approach.
3. The top-down approach is mainly used in debugging, or documentation of module, etc., Whereas the bottom-up approach, is used for testing.
4. In the top-down approach, there is a content-based analysis, whereas, in the bottom-up model, there is trend-based analysis.
5. The top-down approach is a solution and action-oriented, where is bottom down approach is a decision and policy-oriented.
In terms of the current pandemic of coronavirus, according to me, a double loop approach would be more viable to use over a single loop approach, because in a double loop approach, we try to reform and improve our beliefs and expectations, and our assumptions and goals, etc. They are not structured, they are questionable. We don't have a fixed goal or answer to any question.
The same is happening in this current scenario of a pandemic. We don't have any medicines yet, the research regarding this virus is still under process, we have no rigid information regarding how this virus will act under different circumstances, regarding the nature of the virus. We don't have enough sufficient information, so for researchers or scientists, the double loop method would be more viable as compared to the single loop approach where all the information and goals and expectations are well structured.
