Respond to the following quote from the Hattie text with one example of how you will formatively assess learning in your future classroom. “Fundamentally, the most powerful way of thinking about a teacher’s role is for teachers to see themselves as evaluators of their effects on students” (Hattie, 2012, pg. 14).

John Hattie explained the importance of teaching as a perspective that students are their own teachers with important personal priorities of teachers to handle the educational system. There are few basic points of the teaching system which were forwarded by him like:

  • Visible learning showed that the theoretical subject knowledge of teachers did not improve the score of students in the exams. Teachers should organise the content knowledge according to the educational curriculum before teahcing students in class.
  • There are various strategies which should be implemented for teaching students in classes.An optimum classroom environment should be built according to the needs and requirements of the students according to the educational curriculum of the students.
  • teachers should take a feedback of students in the educational system.
  • teachers should have a passion for teaching as intelligence is not fixed and it changes with time. The advancement in knowledge increases with time and it is not fixed.
  • They believe in the seven C adjectives like care, control, clarify,challenge, captivate, confer and consolidate.
  • teachers encourage students to expand their knowledge, creativity, intelligence and logical reasoning based on the their ability to learn the subject in life.

According to Hattie there are various important perspectives in teaching like:

  • Organizing and teaching according to the curriculum.
  • self-consequences of the learning
  • self-evaluation of the performance.
  • help seeking from other groups.
  • keeping records of the educational marks
  • goal setting and priorities in life.
  • reviewing records and self-monitoring.
  • time management in life.
  • It is self confidence and attitude of a teacher which brings success for the students in the exams.

There are various influences which the teachers should have like:

  • retention and ability to concentrate in various subjects
  • student control over learning.
  • whole language programs with development of softwares for linguistic learning.
  • teacher subject knowledge matter with emphasis on the curriculum
  • gender and age of students for learninfg various subjects.
  • ability grouping with discussion of improtant subjects in life.
  • matching of teacher student learning with coordination, communication and regular discussion of subjects in classrooms.
