Part # 1 How would you describe the EI level of Cirque du Soleil Founder Guy Laliberte? Give an example from the case to support your response?
Part # 2 What is your EI(emotional Intelligent ) score, and do you think it is an accurate reflection of you? Why or why not ?
Part#1
Guy Laliberte's EI can be described as follows:
1. Self-awareness: He must surely be rated the best (probably the highest) in this aspect because from a tender age he became self-aware about his talents and inclination towards performing arts. This took him a long way in his career and at the position that he is right now.
2. He can probably be scored low in self-regulation as he has a track record of losing a huge amount of money in poker.
3. A person with diverse career from being a street performer to owning a circus to playing poker to being one of the few to space travel, he is a highly motivated person with the urge to do something new.
4. Social skills of a person cannot be judged remotely.
5. With huge amount of donation to One Drop FOundation from his poker wins, he is surely an empathetic person.
Part#2
My score of emotional intelligence is 61 out of 75 with the following distribution of scores:
Self-awareness - 12/15
Self-regulation - 10/15
Motivation - 12/15
Social skills - 12/15
Empathy - 15/15
Yes, this is surely an accurate representation of my true self.
Reasons:
1. Self-awareness score is justified by the overall discipline I have in my daily life and perfectionist attitude of mine. I always analyze my behaviour during various situations and try not to commit the same mistakes.
2. Self-regulation score is a bit low, that is surely justified by my short-tempered attitude and panic-struck behaviour during pressure situations. I get a bit too hyper if the situation is not under my control.
3. I am a highly motivated person but that is something I would like to give credits to my parents, younger sister and girlfriend. They are the pillars behind my motivation and they arise in me the constant urge to excel at everything. I have an academic topper for my whole life and have cracked the best on-campus company interviews during bachelor's as well as masters.
4. I have great social skills which are reflected by the kind of position of responsibility held by me during MBA. I was the head of HR club, conducted mock group discussions and mock personal interviews. I personally conducted career guidance sessions for college juniors.
5. The sessions mentioned above have helped me become one of the most empathetic people. I am a good listener which surely helps in knowing and understanding emotions of other people.
