How does the "Power of Asking, Listening, & Accepting" relate to social work practice (Hint: think about the process of assessment"?
The power of asking, listening and accepting is the main commands of an effective communication and flow of information. These elements help to properly understand and convey the concepts from one party to another to achieve the prescribed goals. The importance of them are:
Asking: Asking shows confidence and interest of a person. It is true that a person wouldn't have doubt if he didn't study about it. Same applies in the organisation too. By initiating the communication by asking relevant question is an important factor which not only helps to achieve the social work practice, but also increased your work as well as interpersonal relationship shared among collegues, employees, managers etc.
Listening: By asking a question, now the second party would answer or respond to your question. A communication is considered effectively only when the person who started the communication listen it too. Effective listening is very important to clearly understand the ideas, theories, answers and the reasons why certain thing happened.
Accepting: After listening and analysing the answer you got, the last step is to accept the answer. An effective communication doesn't end with fighting or arguing why this thing happened. It either ends with accepting or giving an effective feedback for the answer heard. One has to patient enough to accept what the other had said, patiently analyse and then respond to what should happen next.
