Provide two shapes of idealized developmental change and an example of each.
PLEASE DO NOT PROVIDE ME WITH THE ANSWERS BELOW.
1. U shaped development change:
It can be observed in early childhood cognitive development. Here, there is an initial hike in performance, then a dip and then a recovery. For example, it can be observed in first language acquisition.
2. S shaped development change:
It is marked by an initially slow development, then a steep acceleration followed by a plateau. It is generally observed in skill learning.
U- shaped development, also known as U- shaped learning, is the typical pattern by which physical, artistic And cognitive skills are developed. It is called U- shaped development because of the shape of the letterU in correlation to a graph, skills developed in the u-shaped fashion begin on a high position on a graphs y axis. start out at a high performance level and over time the skills descend to a lower position on the y-axis. After another period of time the skin once again assassin's to a higher position on the y-axis.U shaped timeline is created of the skills development.U shape can be seen in cognitive skills such as learning new words for doing high level algorithms in mathematics. the skill can also be artistic such as painting or playing a musical instrument and physical skills such as walking and weight lifting.
The U shaped development in physical skill comes from the development and resolution of muscular strength on the graph the y axis in muscular strength and the x-axis is time. muscular strength develops and receives over time because of necessity for example of this is a baby learning to walk. the baby will gain the strength in its legs to be able to support itself and walk but it then grows larger and the strength in its legs become less than required to support itself but then the baby's leg strength increases again which gives it the ability to support itself again.
In cognitive skill the developmental curve reflects the progression of intuitive thinking processes as a person develops more advanced knowledge structures in a specific area. the shape of the curve reflects the variability of general International availability. Once intuition levels increase, also he can make more higher order intuitive connections or understanding given a corresponding increase in expertise. In this graph the axis would be available for intuition on the y-axis and level of expertise on the x-axis, instead of the skill level and time. The u curve represents two different types of intuition which are referred to as image intuition and mature intuition.
S Shaped development change:
The S curve framework is not a new concept. It is a life cycle thinking or the sigmoid curve for an individual development which appeared in mid 1990 . It is a new innovative and powerful way to describe cycles of learning and development and link them over time. During the initial phase of a person's learning curve progress is slow. with further practice vegain competence and confidence. the middle phase can be followed by a phase during which we plateau, When we do our jobs in the same way over and over tasks become automatic ok and we often forget the importance of learning new things and keeping up with new development. that is when it becomes crucial to leap to the beginning of a new S curve .
It is important to note that moving from one s-curve to the next does not necessarily involve a hierarchical progression, it can also mean broadening a skill set by moving between functional areas while staying at the same level of Hierarchy.
