Why did the Americans need assistance from the French to ensure victory?
One of the most important reasons for the Americans to seek help from the French is that they were the primary enemies of the Great Britain and they would provide help without any hesitation. The French were hurt by the defeat in the seven years of war thus, wanted retaliate them. Secondly, in the absence of supplies in terms of clothes, gun powder, shoes and cannons, they were dependent on Europe thus, France supplied them in abundance in order to ensure that the British are not present in America anymore. France had its own personal gains by supporting the Americans as it could get some territories. Benjamin Franklin worked as the ambassador to France thus, it was easy to get the help of France through the treaty of alliance. The colonists wanted the French and the Spanish to help them in the war of independence in return to future trade alliances.
