Expert Solution

i)

1) Similarities between USB flash drive, CD-ROM and Hard disk:

  • USB flash drive, CD-ROM and Hard disks can be used to store any format of data like audio, video, documentation, etc.

  • USB flash drive, CD-ROM and Hard disks can be used as secondary external storage for data.

2) Differences between USB flash drive, CD-ROM and Hard disk:

  • CD-ROM is an abandoned/obsolete format to store data as compared to USB flash drive and Hard disks.

  • CD-ROM can hold lesser amount of data as compared to the USB flash drive and Hard disks.

  • USB flash drive and CD-ROM do not require any cables for the data transfer as needed for the hard disks.Hence USB flash drive and CD-ROM are more portable.

  • Accessing data on Hard disks takes much longer than on USB flash drive and CD-ROM.

  • USB flash drive and CD-ROM are less expensive than the hard disk.

ii)Based on the similarities and differences mentioned in point (i),the recommendation of the storage device depends on what is required :

  • If a person wants ease of portability and faster data access ,then he/she can go in for USB flash drive rather than a Hard disk.
  • On the other hand if a person is looking only for the storage capacity, then he/she can go with Hard disk.
