Expert Solution

The police need people for its effective functioning. People will make complain , they will give related information and only they will help police identify the criminals. Thus , police efficiency depends on citizens cooperation.

How citizen cooperation is determined ??

It depends on three things- citizen trust in police , percieved effuciencyeof police in dealing crime and social cohessionc i.e. in what state society itself is.

The most pressing issue today is reduced percieved efficiency of police in controlling crime. Media reports have highlighted the incidents where police failed.

Moreover there is problem in social cohessionc. Society is divided on many fronts .Hence , they could not cooperate in the manner they should be.

Moreover , media is ablaze with news item of people police discord at any place. This has led to drastically reduced trust of citizen in public.

All three combined makes todays police citizen relationship uncordial and non supportive.
