Describe a recent purchase you’ve made and discuss each of the activities that are present in the consumer decision-making process
What sources of information would you use if you wanted to buy a computer?
Discuss what is meant by extended, limited, and habitual decision making.
Ask fellow students what they consider to be evaluative and determinant criteria in the decision to choose their college. In what ways are their responses similar to your opinion? In what ways do they differ?
What types of decision-making rules can be used for selecting a smart phone? Select one and evaluate at least 3 different phone options.
A recent purchase that that to be made was a wifi internet connectivity router which involved different aspects to it before buying. Firstly involving my peer mates and enquiring them about which types of router they have and what are the different price ranges, which ones they are having and it's feedback being some of those. Additionally, going to different stores and enquiring about the different kinds relating to the specifications of it were also worth noting. Thirdly finding information regarding it in the internet also served as a easier platform to clarify pricing and specification related details.
The same above sources would be used if I would have to buy a computer, i.e asking my relatives and friends who already own a computer. Secondly enquiring in the stores regarding what I need is also done and lastly, checking in the internet using various websites would also be a source of information.
Extended decision making is the whole process which involves alot of searching and enquiring about a high cost purchase to be made along with different complexities of evaluation. This process involves alot of uncertainty regarding the correctness of the decision.
Limited decision making is done for the mid cost products which doesnt involve a heavy in depth research regarding the product. Mostly the purchase is made from the past memory or logical inferences of the product themselves.
Habitual decision making is for the products which are bought on a perpetual basis such as grocery or milk etc. It involves minimum time for the decision of the purchasing and thus involves almost no research at all.
In order to evaluate for choosing colleges, some feel that colleges who have a strict discipline are the good ones and thus those should be opted for. Some think the teachers' academic qualifications are what a student look for in a good college and some people also take into account the infrastructure of the college which is a basic need for a college to be called decent.
I agree with the teacher's qualifications and nicer infrastructure for the college whereas discipline wise I would prefer lesser disciplined colleges as I prefer staying at home and preparing for exams rather than attending college even when there is no need to. Thus attendance wise I would prefer going to lesser strict colleges with teachers having more understanding and better bond with students, such that these would not matter in the years of the college.
For the purchase of phones, it would involve extended decision making since it would require alot of research from the fellow mates and all around. Since it is a heavy cost product, enough research and time has to be spent on it in order to reduce the uncertainty regarding the final decision made.
