Write at least 5 sentences on the following question:
What are the main challenges in today's society that limit
nuclear families from thriving?
Solutions
Expert Solution
Nuclear families are definitely on the rise and has its
advantages as well. The nuclear family unit provides a strong
bonding experience for immediate family members. The smaller family
size allows individualized attention towards partners and children
which creates lifelong bonds.
But on the flip side, the smaller the size of the family more is
the isolation which is being experienced by people especially from
other relatives.
In todays time.since financial stability has become so
important, both parents are working and may be giving less time to
children and because of lack of support from extended family
parents may need to take off work to care for sick children.
The struggle to balance the demands of work, family and
friendships without outside assistance has lead to increased
amounts of stress, depression, anxiety or other problems among
parents and even children.
In a nuclear family where both parents work and have young
children, the ability to meet all expectations and needs solely
within the family unit is not always feasible. Multi-generational
households offer assistance as needed and because of small support
system it has become difficult for nuclear families to manage
everything on their own.
Apart from depending on the parents for emotional bonds,
children might also feel stressed if financial troubles exist,
because unlike a joint family, there is no one else to fall back
on.
Children also get lesser chances of interacting with extended
family members. This can and has resulted in poor communication
skills, and a loss of traditions in the new generation, which is
very important to keep the child grounded.
More isolation is happening and the load of working to provide
the best education and best future for the children,is taking a
toll on nuclear families today, which is leading to lesser time
being spent with each other and more distancing happening between
parents and children.
Parents are preoccupied with their own stress and children
struggling with their own problems,is making the need for a larger
support system even more important today to have a healthy
family.
