Question 4: Business Continuity planning [50 marks]
Business Continuity planning involves the creation and validation of a logistical plan that outlines how an organization will recover from a disaster or extended disruption of operations.
a) Identify and discuss the phases of a Business Continuity life cycle. [25 marks]
b) With the aid of examples, discuss the various issues that could indicate that a Disaster Recovery Plan is not in order. [25 marks]
Business continuity Lifecycle is basically a management strategy which helps the company to be in a moving state during unforeseen circumstances.
There are basically 6 phases of Business continuity lifecycle which are as follows:
1.Formulation of Policy:
This is the very first step in the lifecycle which helps to formulate a policy which will be followed by the entire team.
2 communication
This is the very crucial step which involves communication through both offline and online medium regarding the policies to the stakeholders and the vendors of the company
3 Implementation of policy
This the third step where a proper team is required to formulate the policy which involves activities identified under the policy
4 Analyze:
The fourth step is to analyse the critical functions and risk assessment factors where key products and services have to be identified
5 Execution of the policy
After performing all the above steps now it's time to finally process the plan to reach to a desired conclusion .
6. Review
This is the final stage of the lifecycle where you have to review by making internal audit, self assessment checks and carrying out corrections to improve in a more better way
Ans 2 : Basically disaster recovery plan is the process of utilizing all IT technology at once which may lead to a havoc One common example is suppose there is a DDOS attack in the company website them if they follow the Disaster recovery plan they may contact ISP,install firewall, try to check data of their confidential stakeholders, check backup system all these put together may create a blunder If the company had not followed a previous policy as it is done in Business Continuity Management Planning
