Define MIPS and MFLOPS and explain how they are related and different from each other.
Answer)
MFLOP is referred to as Mega Floating-point Operations Per Second. This is a common measure for the speed of the microprocessors which is meant for having the floating-point calculations.
The measure of the microprocessor speed is the MIPS where the Millions of instruction per second are indicating the integer calculation performance.
MIPS is referred to as that of the millions of instruction per second.
MIPS is all about instruction which is the type of instruction. MFLOPS is where the specific type of operation having the instruction related to that of the decimal numbers. hence they are not related in the measurement of both the reference points.
MFLOPS are being widely used by people which simulates many works whereas MIPS would lead to generating the result from it.
In the current scenario, the high-end GPU is using MFLOPS as the instruction code, while the MIPS is used in the PCs and is based on the processor which helps in the production of cheap and easy code of programs.
Both are meant for the processor calculation. and MIPS is more with regards to how the processor works whereas when the fp calculation is considered, it is the MLOPS.
