please discuss the following: 1- Hazards and precautions of radiation. 2- The use of MRI for respiratory care.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The types of damages that can be caused by the radiation hazard:

The exposure to radiation hazard induces deleterious genetic effects. When tha radiation passes through genetic cells, there occur mutations of the chromosomes of the cellular nuclei. The mutations are transmitted from one generation to the next and so on.The genetic effects are irreversible. The strong alpha ray exposure can cause lung cancer. The exposure to fasat and slow neutron can cause blindness. The exposure to fast and slow neutron can cause blindness. The exposure to neutrons protons and alpha particles can cause damage to red blood cells. It can also cause serious damage to reproductive organs. The safety precautions for radiation hazards are the radio isotopes should be transferred in thick wall lead containers and kept in rooms with thick wall of lead. The radio isotopes are handled with the help of remote control device. The workers should wear lead aprons.

Simple and small ventilators ,paraPAC and ventiPAC were used for anaesthetic and respiratory care of patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging combined with or without MRI compatible anaesthetic machine.Oscillometric blood pressure monitor and a gas and pulse oximetry monitor were used with 6m extendedlines for monitoring patients for respiratory care.
