1. Physical changes during middle age: Middle Age is group of adults from age group of 45 to 65 years. The following are the changes which occur:

  1. Organs do not function efficiently as before
  2. heart lung capacities decrease
  3. Presbyopia (far sightedness or difficulty reading)
  4. Presbycusis( difficulty hearing loud sound)
  5. Decrease in strength and co-ordination
  6. Decrease in fine motor skills.

All these changes makes the middle age poeple that they have reached their midlife.

2. Fluids intelligence: Defines as ability to solve reasonable problems and is correlated with number of skills like comprehension, problem solving and learning. Ability to reson and think flexibily

Crystallized intelligence:  Refers to accumultion of knowledge, facts and skills that re acquire throughout life.

Menopuse: Defined asthe time in women"s life where the menstural cycle stops permanently and no longer able to bear children.Typically occurs between 49 to 52 years.

Empty nest syndrome: Defines as the phenomenon in which the parents experience the feeling of sadness and loss when the last child leaves home although the parents make their children to be actively indepenant, the experience of letting go is still painful.

Cluttered Nest:Defines as the phenomenon where the young adults return home to live with their parents. It is a syndrome which is connected to less employment opportunities.

Mid life crisis: Defined as the transition of identity and self confidence that can occur in midde aged individuals between the age group of 45 to 55 years.

3. Generativity v/s stagnation. This is the 7th satge of eight stages of Erickson"s theory of psycological developemnt. This stage occurs in the middle age adults. Generativity refers to craeting or nuturing things that will outlasts them. The Adults give back to the society by raising their children and becoming involved in the community. Success leads to feeling of usefullness while failure rsults in shallow involvement in the world. By failing to find a way to contribute we become stagnant and feels unproductive.
