Is genetic intervention and / or genetic enhancement morally acceptable? In what ways are these techniques similar and different from, ethically, than vaccines to combat disease or the use of legal stimulants like caffeine to enhance brain function?
The emerging disease and the advancement in technology has made everything possible. Genetic intervention or genetic enhancement is one such advanced growtg in the healthcare sector .The germ line therapy, somatic cell therapy used in humans to treat the deadly disease is accepted on the grounds of medicine and humanity but still there is controversy that the genetic alterations done in the gene can be transferred from one generation to next generation making it immoral. This is because of mankind going against God's creation or against the nature .
They are similar to vaccines or stimulants by providing a relief to the clinical manifestation, preventing and controlling the illness. This is ethically acceptable.The ethical issues is the changes are permanent and risk of hereditary transmission .The main difference among them is the genetic alterations done in genetic enhancement and the proper process of microorganisms into lifesaving drugs like vaccines ,certain neurostimulants which can enhance the brain function to certain period of time. It is limited to one individual as it doesn't pass from one generation to another .
