Body fat is the portion of the total body weight. Total body weight include the components  like bone, organs, fluid, muscles and body fat.body fat is typicaly the percentage of body weight.

Body mass index and body fat percentage are the two ways to measure the health and fitness.

BMI is the measure of body fat using height and weight. In BMI it calculates the weight but doesnot consider whether the weight comes from fat or lean muscle tissues. Particular people like athlets may have high BMI due to there lean muscle weight but dont have fat weight. In this case body fat percentage can be used.

Common method to assess the body fat are

▪Anthropometric measurements like height, weight, body  circumference, skin fold thickness.

▪Complex method includes bio electric impedence,it calculate the total body water, fat free mass and fat mass.

▪Duel energy x ray absoptiometry, it quantify fat, lean and bone tisdues.

▪Skin fold calipers- it measure the thickness of your subcutaneous fat

▪Bod pod:- it will find the fat percentage based on density of your body.

Your percentage of body fat by weight is an important indicator of your general physical condition. For people in good health it should be between 10 and 15%. One way of determining this percentage is to measure your average body density. This can be done by weighing yourself underwater when you have completely exhaled. You can do this in your friendly neighbourhood pool by placing a kitchen scale on the bottom (one that is not damaged by being under water)...
