What are the advantages of tablets, capsules, or liquids? Which medications should not be diluted in 15 to 30 mL of water for tube feedings?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans) Advantages of tablets- Unit dosage forms with accurate, stable dose and great precision and least variability. Most stable.

- The advantages of the capsule include the ability of being effective oxygen barrier and excellent chemical stability, which could improve product stability. For example, components are unstable, sensitive to temperature, light and heat can be made into capsule forms.

- Liquids may have a big advantage over pills when it comes to swallowing. Generally, supplements in liquid form are much more readily broken down and absorbed. Additionally, it has been shown that liquids are more completely and quickly absorbed than most capsules and pills.

- Crushing an Accupril tablet and dissolving it in water for allows the carbonate to increase the pH of the solution, causing the drug to rapidly degrade into a poorly absorbed metabolite. So such medications may need not need dilution.
