This exercise I will list a series of words I want you to give me both denotative (actual dictionary definition) & connotative (personal meaning or reaction to the word).
Word List:
Work, loyalty, parent, education, professionalism, family, partner, student, tradition, infidelity, boss, & love
Denotative and Cannotative meanings-
Work : Denotative - work refers to doing something physical or mental effort to earn money or to achieve something.
Cannotative - people who work are employed to do that and in return they get something that they want like money.
Loyalty: Denotative - it refers to the behaviour of staying firm to your freind or to support someone or something.
Cannotative - it is the feeling to stay firm or a duty or to support or to stay truthful to someone or something.
Parent: Denotative - a person's mother or father , or a company who owns other smaller companies.
Cannotative - parents are those who give birth and brings forth their offspring.
Education,: Denotative - it refers to the teaching or traing of people at places like school, colleges ,institutes and coaching centers.
Cannotative - it is the knowledge and skills that we get from experts at places like an educational institute.
Professionalism: Denotative - it refers to a way of doing a job with required skills and experience.
Cannotative - it refers to the characterstics and attitudes of a person holding a job which requires special skills and experience.
Family: Denotative - a group of people in any number who are related to each other.
Cannotative - people who are related to each other like parents and than their offsprings , and those people who are related to the first one's traditionally.
Partner :Denotative - refers to the person who are married to each other or the persons who are contracted in a same business together.
Cannotative - persons who agree to live together and who marry to each other and give promise for lifetime togetherness.
Persons in a company who agree to be in a contract of partnership.
Student :Denotative - a person who is studying at any educational institute.
Cannotagive - a person who is studying or who is getting knowledge from any place from where he or she can get the specific knowledge or skill.
Tradition :Denotative - a custom or belief that is followed from past and is stll continued.
Cannotative - a belief which is passed from one generation to another only by a word of mouth.
Infidelity : Denotative - the act of not being truthful to your partner or wife by having sexual relation with any other person.
Cannotative - the act of doing sex with a person who is not your partner or husband or your wife.
Boss : Denotative - a person who gives orders to those whom he employ.
Cannotative - a person who is incharge of a worker or an organisation in an annoying way.
Love : Denotative - a strong feeling that you have for someone or something.
Cannotative - to like something or somebody in a strongest way an to care for them.
