After reading the assignment on the textbook and reading the article, I have concluded that it is in the best interest of Tata Motors to partner up with Mercedes-Benz for many reasons. One of the main reasons they should seek partnership with Mercedes-Benz is for the abundance of resources that the company has to offer from the luxury line of cars they have to the more economical ones and as well as a truck and motor-van line that they provide. The company is credited for being one of the best car dealers with the best customer-service as well as having an iconic brand name as a partner would only help the growth of Tata Motors as a company overall. Meaning that Mercedes-Benz owners and people around the world would now link the company with Jaguar and Land Rover boosting the overall sales for Tata Motors. I believe by having a well-known company as a partner will make a customer trust your company more because they will always link the Mercedes-Benz experiences to the ones they believe they will receive with Tata Motors moving forward. With any partnership, one will run into a couple of challenges, in this case since Tata motors headquarters are located in India and Mercedes-Benz are located in Germany they may not have the easiest transition with the different locations. Technology will be a big resource for both company's moving there partnership forward due to the location issues, the other big challenge will be that Tata Motors will have to invest into the partnership before seeing a profit from it.
The partnering of Tata Motors with Mercedes-Benz will be beneficial for it's growth in international market. The reason being, Mercedes-Benz is a well-acclaimed brand in the overseas market. It is known for it's quality and service . Also, it tends to the niche market, which Tata Motors is yet to capture. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz to would be advantaged by the partnership as it would be able to gain the benefit of expertise and market reach in the Indian market, which is blooming market. Therefore, this would be beneficial for both Tata Motors as well as Mercedes.
Regarding the challenges of communication due to distant location of headquarters of the two companies, this would hardly be a problem owing to the contribution of technology in our lives. Technological advancements have made the world come closer, i.e. facilitate long-distant communication and co-ordination. Thus, this would hardly posses an obstacle for the companies to reap the benefits of the partnership.
