In today's society it is a questionable honour to be a professional. In order to save another person’s feelings, but where does the line get crossed to the point that everything a person says becomes questionable?

The largest honour society is perhaps the Golden Key which operates worldwide and has over 2 million members. It provides a range of services to members, including leadership training, networking and the opportunity to do good. Membership is by invitation only and only those who are in the top 15% of their class or high performing graduate students are eligible. The eligibility is based solely on academic performance.

Engineering is an important and learned profession. As members of this profession, engineers are expected to exhibit the highest standards of honesty and integrity. Engineering has a direct and vital impact on the quality of life for all people. Accordingly, the services provided by engineers require honesty, impartiality, fairness, and equity, and must be dedicated to the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare. Engineers must perform under a standard of professional behavior that requires adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct.

How professional liability protect us

A professional indemnity insurance policy can give protection against copyright infringement lawsuits. The professional liability insurance, which is also called, errors & omissions insurance policy, offers coverage against professional risks and related legal expenditure.

The errors and omissions insurance has an IPR infringement clause which offers coverage in case there is a violation of intellectual property. The policy includes third-party claims, which may arise from the violation of copyright rules with regards to images, slogans, design work, etc.; without the permission of the creator.
