Transformational leadership is a kind of leadership which causes change in individual and society. The aim is to take followers into leaders.. There are positive changes in the followers. Hence the moral and and the performance of an individual is increased considerably. Whereas as traditional leadership styles were more related to power and position. Those who had money and authority were the leaders. The respect of the individual was given to position than the leader. The leaders were more controlling instead of being innovative. Followers were promoted based upon the office politics and those who were in good books of the leaders. Hence we can see that traditional leaders more focused on the objective whether any task is completed or not, instead if checking whether innovation can be made in the team, can their working efficiency be increased by bringing by any morale boosting activities.
Transformational leadership is very much the current trend in the world. Today everybody is educated from good institutes, everybody scores good. Hence everybody wants to be the leader. Nobody wants to be the follower for the rest of the life period. One of the activities is that followers are associated with the mission and vision of the company this makes the followers to understand the company more better. They understand strengths and weakness of the followers so that they can work upon it. It is also said in the article that this type of leadership redesigns perceptions and values, changes expectations, and values of the individual.
This is related to Maslow's hierarchy, in the self esteem needs which is feeling of accomplishment and later self actualization needs i.e. achieving full potential. Earlier as followers self esteem needs are fulfilled, trainings are being conducted, there is morale boost and performance also increases in the organizational change. Whereas in the self actualiztion when the follower becomes the leader now and and brings the organizational change. He creates leaders from the followers.
