Some companies are trying to ensure leaders stay healthy by telling them to take time for themselves and get enough sleep to help bolster their immune systems. Why is “self care” such a challenge for some leaders, especially leader during a crisis?
During a crisis it is natural for a leader to feel pressurized, experience anxiety and fear. Loneliness and depression comes naturally and the power to take right decision reduces and the fear of uncertainty increase. This is the time when it is of utmost important to take care of the mental health which is refereed as "self care" . However self care for a leader is challenging as the feels "self care" is a sign for weak people. Also leader feel that this is the time when important decisions are to be taken and they don't give time to themselves. The stress and pressure becomes too much that they forget to take care of their own health. They keep everything on stake that is their personal life , relations and the me time which gives them feel good. Their hectic schedules, travels and commitments make them so occupied , neglecting their own health. Leaders in order to get everything right often skip their meals, eat unhealthy food and even miss their health checkups. This not only affects the physical health but as well the mental health of a leader. A leader who even has done his best is unable to enjoy to its best and thus it is important for a leader to first take care of himself/herself.
