Identify and discuss JIT scheduling tactics.
The following are some of the JIT scheduling tactics:
· Better communication of schedules with suppliers – The communication schedules should be shared as early as possible to the suppliers so that supply chain can be managed effectively.
· Eliminate waste – It is important to produce only what is needed, when it is needed and only in the quantity that is needed. This will result in optimum production levels and minimize wastage.
· Manufacturing of smaller number of items – It describes the production of small lots of similar type and design. This can benefit inventory levels, ensure smooth production and better scheduling.
· Zero deviation in schedule – There should be zero deviation between the baseline production metrics and the actual production levels.
· Use of Kanban techniques – This is a work scheduling system that focusses on maximizing productivity levels by minimizing idle time. Using the Kanban technique will optimize inventory, reduce waste, minimizes costs, greater production flexibility.
· Production of perfect parts by each operation
