A polling organization conducted surveys of randomly selected citizens 18 years old or older and asked whether they support the legalization of medicinal marijuana. The frequencies of reported? opinions, by age? group, are presented in the table. What is the P-value?
18-29 | 30-49 | 50+ | |
For Against | 77 | 86 | 132 |
Against | 133 | 141 | 142 |

Here we use , chi- square test for testing equality of proportion .
Hre P1 = proportion of 18-29 age , P2= proportion of 30-49 age , P3 = proportion of 50+.
So here claim :whether they support the legalization of medicinal marijuana .
In notation , claim : P1=P2=P3.
Hypothesis :
H0: P1=P2=P3. vs H1: At least one proportion is different from the other .
Command In TI -84:
In table the given frequency that is observed frequency .We plug this table in TI-84 calculation in matrix form .
Step 1 : command as , 2ND >>> x-1 >> then move curcel on EDIT then hit enter .
Then choose order of matrix as 2*3. then hit enter .
Then plug given observed frequency in that matrix .
Step 2 : STAT >>>TESTS >>> then hit enter on C : -Test ....
Then For observed you have matrix [A] , here we stored data.
Expected frequency calculated by command and that will be stored in [B].
then hit enter on Calculate .You will get output with p- value .

Command in stat crunch :
Step 1
: Enter contingency table, enter it into the
spreadsheet.
The first column
should be the row variable.
Each subsequent
column would be the counts of each category of the column
variable.
Title each column
(including the first column indicating the row variable).
Step 2 : Select Stats, highlight Tables, select Contingency, then highlight with data .
Step
3: Select the column variable(s).
Then
select the row variable. Click Next>.
Step 4: Decide what values you want displayed. Click Calculate.
Sorry I dont have statcrunch so , cant see you output .
Use this command in statcrunch .
